Last night marked the final Tuesday Salon. It's been a long, crazy run. If someone had told me, back in January, that we'd make it this long, I'd have bet against it.
Best of all, I think I know tons more people through TS than before. To be sure, one sees people at parties, restaurants and bars. But most conversations tend to be somewhat stilted or fragmentary. TS, by contrast, enabled me to think "wow, that person seemed cool...I hope they come back another Tuesday".
There were good times and bad. My pretzel Salon, in the absence of Annie, had to be a low point. The numbers for four square varied from almost no one (two hot weeks were like that) to so many people on both squares the lines were deep for each.
Will TS be reborn, like the phoenix, one day? I'm not sure. But for now, I'm just appreciative of all the good times we had.

Okay, we just e-mailed out the new theme. In honor of our (relatively?) perfect health, this week we're going to be rolling out all the sick-day foods you love to eat while stuck at home watching summer reruns. Both Annie and myself are back this week, and the streak of unbroken salons since January is still very much alive.
The dark cloud on the horizon is, of course, the eventual demise of the house. So if you haven't come in some time, be sure not to miss this week or next week. Because we're going to be going out guns blazing...

We grabbed some friends, stuffed them in some shirts, and called them our names. They then proceeded to host a swedish salon, complete with smorgasbord. If I was in town, I would've gone. Did you?

A great time at TS this week. We had the food fully francaise'd, with plenty of croissants, baguettes and eclairs to go around. We even threw in a ham, just to make things complete.

It's about time: we're finally giving back to the 'hood, by choosing to have a local restaurant cater our affair this week. That means traditional DC (read: Southern) Soul Food served just the way you like it: hot!
This week, nicely, it will not be too hot for Four Square so come on out and play. We'll see you there.

Baseball...we've got all the baseball love here for today's Tuesday Salon. So bring some cheap baseball drinks and have a good time!

Yeah, so the new theme was unveiled...it involves cool mixes of things. Use your imagination when you're bringing liquid refreshments, okay? This time, also, I expect the sports time will be excellent. For once, there's no rain in the forecast.
The posting has been light, mainly because I haven't finished the site yet. Hopefully by the end of this week it'll be good to go.

Okay, this week's theme has been chosen. The first and second time we ever did Tuesday Salon, we basically created some nice antipasti, threw in some cheese, etc. It was nice, but we haven't done it since, so I felt like it was time to get back to the basics.
That means if you're coming, you should try to bring some italian/mediterranean/greek themed beverages, okay? All this talk about antipasti has left me hungry...

I've always looked down upon hosts who force their guests to use plastic cups at parties. And, to be sure, this policy has ensured a healthy amount of glasses broken each week due to accidents. (Annie's cut back, but unfortunately, the rest of you appear to be getting clumsier!)
That said, while I don't mind replacing glasses, in the future, if guests could avoid dropping broken glasses down the garbage disposal, it'd make my life much easier.
Okay, the new theme should be unveiled shortly...

Okay, last week was super-crazy so I didn't get a chance to update the site with the new requested features. But I'll try to get to it this week.
In the interim, tomorrow's theme has been announced: Tuesday Salon Breakfast Time. So be sure to bring any breakfast-related beverages to the event, which starts at the regular time. We're definitely not aiming for "part of this complete breakfast", so you shouldn't try to be wholesome.

Well, I just sent the invitation out. Yeah, yeah, it's super-late. But yesterday was one of the busiest days I've had yet at work, so I just didn't have time.
If you put your name on the board, and you didn't get the invitation, blame Annie. She stole the whiteboard from me last night. It appears that war has been declared in the duelling e-mail list category. One of these days I'm going to go nuclear and just e-mail the regular party list with a TS invitation. Not this week, though.
Even though I won't be able to make it this week, I want lots of good stories so show up, bring some liquid refreshment, and take some pix while you're at it. We need more for the site!

After finishing the history side of the site, I noticed that there were two Salons entitled "Tuesday Salon Warms Up". Now, in the future, I'll have to be more diligent about naming these events...

Well, we had a fairly large attendance at 4-Square after everyone showed up. The gameplay was fast and furious and I saw some of the best rallies ever. Best of all, we trained a whole host of new people so next time should be even better.
Moving on to the Salon itself, I'd like to thank everyone who brought Germanic Grain Based Products (and those who purchase Germanic Grape Based Products too!). It was clear, after about ten minutes, that people now think TS = crazy food preparation.
I'd point out that, in the beginning, TS was a little less structured. But if the mob wants crazy cool food prepared, the mob shall have it. No excuses next time.
We also managed to have several political discussion at a Salon, no less. Weird, eh? Regardless, it was nice to see people discussing not only witty stories and tales of debauchery but the latest Amnesty International report and the "flat-tax" proposal.
That's it for the first update. Much like TS itself, I imagine these will be lengthier as I polish up the site.
